That one I know... :). From Basic, type _KANJI0, _KANJI1, _KANJI2 or _KANJI3 to go to one of the kanij modes with different resolutions (I believe Kanji3 was highest). Go back to the 'normal' screenmode by typing _ANK. While in a kanji mode, you can enter kana by toggling the Kana key (like CODE on a European computer). Press CTRL-SPACE to make the IME bar appear, in which you can type kana, or romaji which will turn into kana, and combine those into kanji using a built-in dictionary (cycle through options using SPACE, I believe).

While not in a Kanji mode, you can toggle kana/ascii as well with the kana key, with shift-kana you can even type romaji... and with capslock on it's even possible to type katakana in stead of hiragana. And in any Kanji mode (IME bar) you can cycle through options using the cursor keys. RETURN will output the contents of the bar to the screen. Then you can use the function keys in the IME bar, toggling between katakana and hiragana and narrow and wide script for both of them.
