Well, that's always how firmware updates are distributed by N-trig: bundled with a driver. The reason is that, unlike with other devices, part of the finger tracking algorithms is in the driver; therefore, there seems to be a strong dependency between firmware and driver versions.

Bryce, I should have noticed earlier: how do you intend to perform a firmware update if you don't have Windows any more?
