I don't run OpenZaurus myself (Familiar/Opie on an iPaq) but I think that http://www.linux-migration.org/ch05s08.html describes it. I understand the RedHat 9 kernel is ok as shipped (no changes required) but you have to add CDCEther to /etc/hotplug/blacklist.
Once you have networking set up you can look at http://multisync.sourceforge.net/opie_sync/howto.shtml to set up synchronization.
