First you have to configure usb on the Zaurus. Mine looks like this:
usbd0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 40:00:01:00:00:01
inet addr:192.168.129.201 Bcast:192.168.129.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
If you configure and up it it should come up.
Then you have to configure a USB on your laptop. With Redhat hotplug should be on so it is a matter of upping it.
Then try a ping. If you open a window as root on the laptop you can then ssh to the ip address off the Zaurus. This makes working it much easier.

I cant seem to get the two to talk, what is needed to just ping the zaurus from my laptop to the usbcradle.
