Did you use the .gxp file from the archive present on Musclecard.com? If you did you problem might be that \GemXpressoRADIII\out\com\sun\javacard\samples\CardEdge\*.class is not the class file but a symbolic link to \classes\*.class.

Since AFAIK W2k does not support symlinks, I don't know what it does with them when it uncompresses the archive.

1.) Did anybody know what goes wrong? What could cause the "IO error"?
2.) Is there a possibility to get a more detailed error log/message of
the convert command?
AFAIK, the RAD uses the standard Sun converter, so you should check Sun's documentation.

3.) Can anybody give me the data of the environment to convert and load
the applet onto the card (which RAD version, OS and so on ...)?
I use the same version as you on Mac OS X (home-brewed porting).

4.) Could I make my own applet files (which I have to convert at my own,
too) without the Gemplus RAD III "projekt feature" and use the kit only
to load the converted .cap file? What would I have to do?
You could and you could even do the conversion in a batch file (see the .bat files in the example folder of the RAD). However, if you use JBuilder + the RAD, you get source level debugging which is quite cool (I use it regularly).

By the way: I have only Gemplus Gemxpresso 211PKis cards. Did the applet
"runs" on these cards or only on Gemplus Gemxpresso 211PK cards?
You should use the 211PK because the 211PKi supports limited crypto.

Cheers,
Jean-Luc.
