Here in the SF Bay Area, we have three series-type dance lengths:

Three hours (Friday and Saturday nights 7:00-10:300, 7:30-10:30, 8:00-11:00, Sunday afternoons 4:00 - 7:00, breaks meant to be be 15 minutes but usually 20)
Two and a half hours (weeknights, typically 8:00 - 10:30, same break length)
Two hours (one particular English dance series where the hall is expensive; 7:30-9:30, break is about five minutes, usually no food, come back with a waltz

The two-hour dance is the only one where nobody habitually leaves at the break.

Hi All,
I'm in the process of organizing a new dance series (old style Community
Contra with a variety of dance forms). It will be on a week-day evening. I'm
wondering how long others run their regular dances, not including beginner
sessions or potlucks or such. And typically how long is your mid-break?
      Thanks!

P.S. And thanks also for all the sharing that has gone on in the past on Shared
Weight. I have lots of good notes and ideas from past posts (from the Callers
list).
