Max has stated publicly his desire to get this release out as soon as possible. I can't stress enough how testers (and obviously developers who fix bugs) make good releases. There has been enough development with this release that there is bound to be obscure bugs that only you can find. Even if you don't find bugs you'll be greeted with all kinds of nice new features. After the release, it is too late for bugs and usually developer interests are focusing on the fun stuff (the next release!). Sure, there will be stable releases as usual, but stable releases are generally not interesting to developers working on the project and old releases quickly become a lower priority.
