Ok, I have found that I should add the following to mpd.conf:
always_on yes
However, it seems to have no effect. I can pause playback once and restart
it, after pausing it again it will not play anymore. Jack does not die,
though. I can still add a track to the playlist and then play this one,
again with only one opportunity to pause it.
Should I file a bug report about this?

This is supposed to have been fixed. But still JACK 0.118.0 gets
disconnected on pause in VoyageMPD with MPD 0.16.
Do I have to use a specific switch or enter anything special in mpd.conf to
make MPD play silence on pause?
