A while ago, I attempted to start to write a MPRIS listener for MPD, but got lost in the utter complexity of D-Bus, gave up because I decided it's a waste of my precious time, given the wonderfully simple protocol that MPD already has. I cannot imagine any advantage of MPRIS over the MPD protocol. If somebody would submit native MPRIS for MPD, I would probably merge it (if the code is good), but for me, it's pointless and not worth my own time. A bridge such as described in the article above is a good solution for people who feel they need MPRIS until then.
