 FYI, in Debian, this was fixed in 2010:

 I disagree. The use of \177 for KEY_BACKSPACE is specific to Linux (and
 other OS that copied on Linux). AFAIK, this is why upstream does not
 change kbs to follow the Linux convention. Other platforms may choose
 KEY_DELETE.
