Sorry I can't duplicate this. The file 'compress.c' is only included in
the list of compilation files if '--enable-compressed' is passed to
configure. So it shouldn't even be compiled in that case.
Perhaps the configuration state got confused somehow. Can you duplicate
this if you try from a freshly unpacked tarball?
