I haven't played with other readers, but the current behavior goes
against what I find intuitive -- which, by definition, is absolutely and
unequivocably right ;-)

Personally, I think it's a good idea, and I'm not worried about pattern
deletes (today, anyway :-) as Jeremy noted might be a problem. This
behavior is prett much what I expected.

I've also found, though I can't remember in which version and now can't
replicated it because the message in question in no longer in a thread,
that

  - sorting by threads
  - collapsing all
  - sorting some other way (eg from)
  - selecting a message that would be down in a thread
  - sorting by threads

leaves the display kinda confused and utterly blank (yes, my index had
nothing listed and the cursor somewhere around the middle of the left
side as though it were pointing to something); moving down was no good
and moving up brought me to a refresh showing that I was pointing to the
last message in the box. While this may have been a temporary bug, I
would expect that mutt would at least point me at the thread head and
be able to paint the display :-) but I'd like to see it open the thread
and point me to the right message directly.

Speaking of which, is there a collapse-subthread command? I can't find
it or make it happen...
