I suggest to *not* do such things at startup in mutt - you might regret it later, eg when you just want to take a look at a folder but *not* download any mails. Either use the builtin "fetch-mail" command ('G') or bind 'G' to start the external "fetchmail". issue when necessary. that's best. Sven
