I wanted to ask about this before but forgot...  Are you sure it's
cygwin's and not Win's?  Where is telnet if you do a "which"?

BTW, I hate running bash under a command/cmd prompt; my environment has
the cygwin path in it already, and I just call bash directly.  That
shouldn't make a difference for your putty configs (BTW, I think putty
does xterm pretty well; try telling it to use xterm and connect up and
see how it works) but would save you a step (especially since DOS doesn't
know from "bash && exit" :-)
