can't use that to negate a "1" in the 5th position... "test1" would match because it would match "0 '1's in the 5th position, followed by a '1'"... if you get my meaning... just occured to me that this won't match "back2" either, since it starts with a "b"... -- Dan Boger Linux MVP brainbench.com
