I disagree. It's not at all specific. As mentioned in another email on
this thread, there was already an intention to have this sort of thing.
It's not about a specific structure to be used -- but being able to
customize: i.e., indicate /usr/videos for vidoes; /usr/photos for
photos; /usr/music for music; etc. It's really just an extension of the
default start-up folder for the file system view.

There's an important distinction between MythTV and mvpmc: Myth was
never written for specific hardware. The Hauppage software and GBPVR
make use of these buttons on the Hauppage remote control since that was
actually the intention of these buttons. They're very useful.

It's simply unnecessary to use custom remotes or lirc to do this.

You're right -- only the newer version, I believe
<http://mvpmc.wikispaces.com/remote>, but that won't break older remotes
that don't have these buttons.
