I ran into this too, but not having VLC setup, the files of course don't play. What was unexpected is that I thought the default transcoder settings in MythTV would produce MPEG2 video. It seems adjusting them to use MPEG2 would be another way to address the above problem, though obviously at the cost of storage space. I didn't try an exhaustive search, but so far I haven't ran across any recommended transcoder settings on the mvpmc wiki. It seems like it would be good to have a page of such settings - both settings for recording from tuner cards as well as transcoding settings. For example, I recently adjusted the "out-of-the-box" default MythTV recording settings[1] for my PVR-500 from 480x480 @ 4500 Kbps, which played nicely via mvpmc, but ate up disk space like crazy, to 352x480 @ 2000 Kbps, and set the low quality to 352x240 @ 1200 Kbps. The former maintains good video quality, but both suffer from audio sync problems after skipping in mvpmc. Bad enough that skipping back doesn't fix it. I've had to become quite familiar with the trick of hitting the record button a few times to pause the video and restore sync. Initially I though the problem might be due to the changes I also made to the audio encoding rates (dropping the sampling frequency and bps), but switching them back to the original settings had no benefit. I'm guessing someone has taken the time to experiment with the settings and determine optimal recording parameters for PVR series cards that reduce disk space usage while also playing back well on mvpmc. It would be good to list these on the wiki. I'll create a page like the MythTV one below, if there isn't one already, and people post their settings. -Tom 1. http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Recording_Parameters ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
