First, I have to assume you are assuming the Hauppauge server and not
GB-PVR, or you would have posted this on the GB-PVR forum where I do
most of my emulation mode support
http://forums.gbpvr.com/forumdisplay.php?f=30 I will try and answer
your question but GB-PVR is a much better solution with the MVP for
too many reasons to go into and it is also no cost and is highly
recommended. For Hauppauge I don't even think there is a concencus on
which version of the server is the best, (used loosely).

Domenic Morris' servers for linux are also recommended over the
Hauppauge server.

AVI and MKV files are just containers to a/v formats so there is no
simple answer to your question. The Hauppauge software does install
drivers for the on-the-fly transcodoing of some formats like divx and
wma but it has trouble with others including some variants of divx.
My instinct says that the file in question has either AC3 or DTS audio
that is not supported by the Hauppauge software. You can confirm this
with software like GSpot or MediaInfo. If it does have mp2 or mp3
audio, I can have a look/listen if you can make a file available.

This all being said if you want to continue to use the Hauppauge
server, (you might even be alone with mvpmc), I only will try and
support version 3.4 25305.

One thing you can try in emulation mode (assuming you are using 0.3.4)
is hitting the Go key followed by the Mute key on the remote. This is
the emulation mode way of toggling between audio streams 0xc0 and
0xe0.

The process is not really the same for Internet radio files through
the Hauppuage server. The http stream is just muxed to a the
Hauppauge protocol and streamed to the MVP. The process for http
streaming of wma content is a little different but since most internet
radio in Microsoft format use mms and not http protocol so this offers
limited interest to most listeners.
