Not quite answering your question, but I gave up on powerline for AV media
as I got too much problems that were entirely due to laggy networking. I
went back to wired and all is well.

I just hope the cable is hidden well enough from the dog now to stop him
biting through the cables again (which was the reason I tried powerline in
the first place) :-)
