I pushed a solution for the above problem into the mvpmc.git repository 
last night. By now they should be in the most recent daily builds here:

After upgrading, I don't have a slimserver 6.5.4 box to test with 
anymore.  But this load appears to works with squeezecenter 7.0.1 
(latest I believe) and with the Debian slimserver distribution based on 
6.3.0.

I would appreciate feedback from anyone using slimserver 6.5.4, with 
album covers setup while playing from an album and / or while using the 
album cover browser (while in mclient: menu button -> select: Browse by 
album Cover).
