I'm seeing frequent mvpmc resets caused by (I believe) use of the
forward and reverse skip buttons while playing back recorded MythTV
programmes and avi files through VLC.

I've tried many versions of mvpmc, starting from the current release
version, but also using the various daily builds over the past few
months.

If I start playback and allow it to simply run, it will normally do so
correctly. However, if I use the forward skip (using the arrow button to
the right of the OK button) then playback will, 9 times out of 10, cause
either mvpmc to reset or a hardware reboot. This doesn't usually occur
directly after pressing the button, but mostly a few seconds later.

Having been lurking on the mailing lists for a few months, I saw a
recent message about bandwidth limits being exceeded, but this behaviour
occurs whether I'm watching BBC1 programmes (high bandwidth, DVB
recording), Channel 4 (low bandwidth, DVB) or VLC-transcoded (all three
presets). The MythTV bandwidth display doesn't seem to get near to the
available bandwidth given by the "Test Throughput" funtionality.

The daily build versions from late April onwards have been slightly more
resilient than before that, but still bad enough that I often give up
and go back to the PC to watch shows.

The reboots which occur don't seem to be effective, either. I've had
soft-resets which have left the network interface disabled (as evidenced
by the lack of LEDS on the remote end of the cable.) Even the hard
resets where the ROM boot-loader reloads the application don't result in
an mvpmc where simple playback will work correctly. Powering off is the
only reliable option after any type of reset.

My MVP box is Revision H4. Booting from a Debian etch system. MythTV is
v0.21 and VLC is v0.86a. The latest mvpmc dongle I've tried is 20080525.

Any advice on how to isolate the problem further?

Thanks in advance
-Kevin
