Yep, this is almost certainly your problem. mvpmc creates a MythTV connection to the IP address you specify on the command line, and then uses that connection to get a list of recorded programs, etc. Because MythTV can have multiple backends each storing their own set of files it tells mvpmc what the address of the server is that holds a given file. When mvpmc tries to play the file it creates a new connection to handle the file traffic, and it makes this connection to a MythTV backend server at the address it was given. It looks like you've got your backend's IP address configured as 127.0.0.1 in your MythTV settings, which works fine when you're on the same machine as the backend, but not from anywhere else. You need to find that setting in MythTV and change it to 192.168.1.4. I think it's in mythtv-setup in the General section. Perhaps in the future whe should make mvpmc behave differently when it receives 127.0.0.1 back from MythTV, and connect to the IP address specified by the -s option, but it doesn't do this at the moment.
