There are 2 different types of Hauppauge MediaMVP:

1. The older models which have a very small quantity of flash memory used
to store a couple of configuration parameters (eg whether the device is
PAL or NTSC). This network boot.

2. The newer models currently on sale, some of which are wireless capable.
These have a much larger flash memory area which contains a copy of the
original hauppauge firmware. This firmware contacts a hauppauge server and
requests what the version of the firmware available on the server is. If
it finds a newer firmware it network boots off that, otherwise it
continues booting the firmware in the flash memory.

The main reason for having firmware in the flash memory in the newer
devices is to allow the wireless networking to be configured. For the
wired model it has very few advantages, and is probably included simply to
allow hauppage to use the same PCB/board layout for the wired and wireless
model.

The reason that the description is there on the wiki is because the 2
different types of model require different server-side setups to get them
to network boot, and "Flash" vs "Non-Flash" is an easy way to describe
that.

Cheers,

Simon
