USB Ethernet adapters probably only work iff the driver is already 
inside the WD box. At least that's what I would expect.  (For instance, 
old TIVOs can be hacked to include a wireless adapter only because the 
drivers are already part of the linux distribution inside.)

Hummm, and the other-other thought is that WD wants you to sneaker net 
the media to it's box using its HDDs.

Ah, you assumed these companies are still engineering companies!  It's 
more likely they have done away w/most if not all of that (if they had 
any to begin w/) hoping to gain it back after the drought.  In general, 
what I expect you will find more and more are the same pacific rim guts 
under different labels.  You have to chuckle when reading review after 
review of what is essentially the same media extender.

However, like I said, judging from the brief product video, this WD box 
doesn't look like it's running Syabas/linux software.
