Hi John...

Martin and/or Jon should chime in any second now. But until then - I
think we are waiting on more driver information. Currently, there is
this application called Mono that plays all the media on an NMT/PCH. I
believe the application is written by Syabas. So it goes like this:
When you want to play media you had over control to Mono. And, along
w/that goes all the controls. Not very interesting and certainly isn't
going to be acceptable for those of us who like our mythtv features.
Even for music this isn't (at least for me) acceptable. We have been
tossing around an idea where we intercept the IR codes and use a local
display for music. We still need to relinquish control of the sound and
screen to Mono, but we would at least control the local display and
receiving IR commands. At that point, it would be more of a question of
how to prematurely kill Mono should someone press the stop button before
the music reaches the end of the song.

This need for SigmaDesign (hardware) / Syabas (software) disclosure
thingy is nothing new (well, new to the PCH/NMT). This combination of
hardware and software has been used for years in many little-known and
well-known media clients. So, I'm not sure what to expect (i.e. will
things ever change?). There are people who think SigmaDesign is nuts
for not disclosing proprietary information - thinking opensource will
create a whole new market for the SigmaDesign hardware. Then again
there once were 3 game box companies XBOX, PlayStation and
Dream...something...or...other - (can't remember) until someone cracked
the copy protection on the Dream...something (yeah, I know apples and
oranges - I'm tired) babble babble babble...
