I haven't been through the VLC setup, but I'm guessing the password is 
something that's specified in a VLC config or command line. I suspect 
that even though the VLC server is using the telnet protocol, you aren't 
actually logging in to the machine via telnet, so the user account 
password is irrelevant.

My recollection is that there is no VLC integration with mvpmc's MythTV 
client. To use VLC you need to go through mvpmc's file browser. Thus if 
you have a matching set of mounted file systems on the mvpmc box and the 
server running VLC, then the paths should align.
