I hate going on about this, but the NMT (Popcorn Hour) is still viable. The GB-PVR client does everything that one would need for an mvpmc replacement and I've posted this YouTube videos before http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtqHLgY8vWw. Right now I'm working with someone on a VDR front-end now and just today someone else on the NMT forums posted their video of what is possible with DirectFB (Jon had the same basics over a year ago). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA0QwLROoJc
The problem isn't the MVP alternative, the problem is the lack of desire to build this client. Given the power of the ION this is understandable, but with the EGreat M34a NMT's at $140 it's still relatively expensive.
