Neat.

Though typical for MythTV, this doesn't really embrace the client-server
architecture, or even integrate with MythTV proper in any significant
way. It's more like a separate app. that happens to share the same UI
library as MythTV front-end.

I realize with the current state of Internet video sources having
proprietary and browser-dependent interfaces, that there are practical
constraints, but having this implemented as a MythTV front-end plug-in
means the work needs to be replicated by every alternative MythTV client.

I haven't investigated far enough yet, but I wonder if the feeds and
downloaded content are even shared among multiple MythTV front-ends that
connect to a common back-end.

I'd rather see a virtual tuner that can be pointed at an RSS feed, for
example, and has all of its configuration on the back-end, with the
resulting content going into the usual show library along with recorded
programs. Why create new isolated silos for each content source?

A well designed back-end could even handle on-demand streaming of some
content (the back-end would fetch it from the Internet and relay it to
the client when requested), optionally transcoding the video on the fly.

If HTML 5, with its (more) open video formats, is embraced, something
like this could be far more practical.
