The bit I missed from my proposed solution (which has been discussed in the 
beta forum) is that it should be more difficult to delete a tab - if I am 
using tabs to hold temporary views that I have set up, then I don't want to 
lose that tab and at the moment, it is too easy to delete a tab (my 
preference: make it a right click option because I find I only occasionally 
delete tabs).
