But the whole point of this thread is not about what one can do with/for FOSS, but about whether there is an environment where one can meet like-minded people. This to me is as important as doing something in FOSS commensurate to your capabilities/interests.
That link talked about the former, and when we talk about community building, it is the latter. Anyone who has worked with people, not necessarily in the FOSS context, will know that the latter is more difficult since it involves more than one individual. One can always be an individual contributor and learn a lot from FOSS, no doubt, but I do not think the original question was regarding this at all.
