Follow-up Comment #2, bug #16133 (project mypaint):
As for recovering your work: OpenRaster files are actually zip archives, so
you can open it with WinZip and get out all the data that was saved. When
opening the archive you should see three .png files under the data/
subdirectory, one for each of your layers.
