As a multiple monitor user, I think that's unlikely; multiple monitors
usually benefit more from separate windows than docked panes in my
experience.

Anyone that wants to split things into multiple panes will likely find the
undocked behaviour more useful than the sidebar, same with horizontal
placement and other arbitrary choices.

As long as the choice of not using docked panes remains, the entire thing is
quite flexible.  I think the sidebar is supposed to be a convenience option
for people using crap window managers (like Windows' management), not a
solution for every UI problem.
