Follow-up Comment #10, bug #18460 (project mypaint):
Edgar: you might be encountering a problem with icon theme caching. If you're
installing to a system location which uses an icon-theme.cache, you'll need to
update that too. Just added documentation about how to do that at

Updating or removing the cache file seems to have fixed this problem for
somebody on IRC today, so it may be worth a try if your install is to /usr or
/usr/local.
