Follow-up Comment #2, bug #18759 (project mypaint):
Not necessarily just a paint (colour) palette. The scratchpad is more of a
(brush AND color) palette, and some people use it for colour sketches or
holding a source file next to the working document conveniently too.
Personally I'm not convinced by the palette loading or colour string making
routines. I see them as deficient because you can't save edited palettes back
to a standard format that'd be loadable in the GIMP. They're shockingly
brush-dependent, and can't be practically used with large brushes or ones with
crazy jitter-by-random settings, and when you apply it incorrectly it screws
up the scratchpad until you locate its undo button. Plus there's no way (that
I know of) of saving "the scratchpad-palette for the current working file".
Maxy wants the out-of-box workflow for newbies to be essentially: choose a
brush, choose a colour, paint. Nothing fancy. The fastest way of choosing a
brush is to present a palette of nice ones, so probably the best way of
picking colours is to do the same. And even for experts, when you have the
palette (i.e. colour scheme) sorted for a picture, things like the colour
triangle might to be considered advanced and flow-breaking for many
workflows.
I want drag and drop palette design on this thing, obviously. This may mean
being able to drag the current colour from other selectors
Not entirely sure whether this would be presented as another top-level
window, as part of (or as the main part of?) the colour dropdown, as a second
tab on the "Colour Triangle" window, or another fold-down on the "Colour
Square". Or all four ;) I'll be implementing it a fairly generic reusable
widget at first, probably as a top-level window in its own right for testing.
