Hi all Mypaint enthusiast and developers ;

My Name is David Revoy, aka Deevad ; and I am the storyboarder / concept artist / art director on Durian , the 3rd Open movie of the Blender Foundation after Elephant Dream and Bick Buck Bunny. ( http://durian.blender.org/ ) I already have a great freelance carreer as concept artist, art director and illustrator for many studios and publishers. I'm a 2D teacher too for the High School of CG Albert Jaquard in Belgium, with 120 student per year. I use also now only open source for my workflow , I switched totally to Linux. All of this to finally say and convince you that " Big no no : I'm not an illuminated beginner that talk of things he don't know " ... : - )

Now I presented myself, let me talk about my feature request ( I already talked of it on IRC #mypaint today ) ; Just before starting Durian in 2 weeks , I have a good proposition from the Blender Institute & Ton Rosendall ; to do the 5th Dvd of the collection "Blender training / production workshop" mainly around 2D. Code name : "Blend & Paint" ( series freely licensed as Creative Commons , more info here : http://www.blender3d.org/e-shop/default_dvds.php so, it's not a basic "commercial" project ) - Keep all this info for you ; this project is still top-secret :-D thanks This future Dvd will be a complete course of 2D digital painting ; from scratch and a first one ever in the categories "open source digital painting" . It will show basics as painting / light / shadows / perspective / character design / environnement / etc..... as advanced as my "Blend & Paint" technic ; Mixing 3D and 2D paint over, concept art etc...... And all of this with some oriental philosophie of paiting and great tips from pros. A large menu ! and 3hours of pure knowledge.

All the DVD ( as well as main part of my future Durian work ) was planned to do with the couple Blender+GImp ( patched with Gimp-for-Painter ) . If I planned at first to use Blender+GImp mostly , it's because the lack of key feature I use as standard digital painting tools in Mypaint. But I've got a real passion for Mypaint, and I know that if I do this DVD with Mypaint as a main tool ; I can bring a lot of new users , professionals / schools or developers around the mypaint project and help to democratize it more. And so, benefit too on long terms about this emulation of new futures features. That's seducing ideas :) But OK, I wake a bit late compare to my project for this brillant idea cause I have only 2 weeks to finish it ; But I prefer ask for my features ; so, I created this request list of 3 item : ( it's a html page cause I coudn't use the wiki uploader, and forum is a bit too public to show it for the moment ) :

If i could get this work in Mypaint fastly (before the end of week ; sadly ) then I can use my last week to record the DVD and make it Blender+Mypaint mainly ! ( as well as making Mypaint my main tool on Durian preproduction ) Imagine the big impact it can have ;) I'm really enthusiast for it ! DVD will be out in end of September / mid October, so it will let developers polish the release.
But for now, I have only till Sunday to solve it.

Let me know if Mypaint developers can !

I will be on IRC channel as long I can be present this week, I hope this will be possible ;
Thanks a lot all for reading my mail.

David Revoy

( PS; Blender developers of the painting part of Blender propose me there code for helping Mypaint layer blending mode )
(PS 2 : All in all .... Good job for Mypaint )
