I think that would be too complicated, both to implement and to use quickly.

Fully agree. When the user is always bothered with those choices the feature
gets too heavy.  (Visual feedback is missing, though.)

This, or a persistent menu checkbox entry "[ ] keep brush color". From what
I heard so far, I think most people will be happy with the old behaviour.
