Hello!

I've written P-painter, a progressive painting tool (with Python, Pygame and
Pgu libraries, see www.natoo.fr/p-painter) and I think some concepts would be
interesting for Mypaint:

1- The progressive painting concept
P-painter records every brush choices and every stoke moves. So it's possible
to replay the full creative process, from the blank page to the final artwork.
It's a good way to share friends this creation time.
Some other advantages:
 -unlimited undo steps
-low file size: less than 100Ko for one minute sequence replay
-complete editing possibilities, like a music sequencer
 (progressive painting = sequence painting)

2- Intuitive brush speed control
At low brush speed, easy way to control the stroke curves.
At high brush speed, classic behavior (the brush position is very near from the
mouse position).

3- Interface disappears before painting
You press the space-bar to toggle interface visibility. So when painting,
there's no visual distraction.
When the space_bar is pressed, P-painter understands that the
creative/recording process starts or stops.
(an option could even go full-screen, with a black border around the canvas: no
desktop distraction)
Others advantages:
- you can build a rich interface, as it won't be disturbing while painting
(for example, I like to see in the P-painter interface the resulting brush
when modifying parameters: color, size, pressure...)
- lower processor work while painting

Some other features, not yet implemented:

4- Canvas format
In real life, the painter choose at first a canvas format:
I think the Krita initial canvas size selector is a good idea.

5- Model help:
In real life too, you can use a transparent paper and place a model behind.
It would be nice to import an image as a new layer, with alpha control, and a
special key to toggle visibility.

6- Alphabrush (reveal brush)
Some years ago, I wrote a painting tool with macromedia director: it was
possible to import an image in a fully transparent layer, and then use an
"alphabrush" to reveal it.
Combined with progressive painting, the result is really funny.

Regards,
Vincent Bendetti
