As a suggestion, try phpMyAdmin if you want to insert
records manually.  Also, it will provide you with
examples (viewing the source code, that is) on how the
inserts, updates, etc. work.  phpMyAdmin can be
downloaded from
http://www.phpwizard.net/projects/phpMyAdmin/
