Looks like you have the right stuff. Have you tried the following: (run "make distclean" before configuring again to be sure you get a clean start.) CFLAGS="-O3 -mcpu=pentiumpro" CXX=gcc CXXFLAGS="-O3 -mcpu=pentiumpro \ -felide-constructors -fno-exceptions -fno-rtti" \ ./configure --your options here change "-mcpu=pentiumpro" to suite your system (i386, i486, i586, i686, pentium, pentiumpro, k6, or athlon).
