You mention nothing about your environment. What OS are you using? What version MySQL (server and client) are you using?
How do you intend to interact with your database? Will you be using one of the many tools available to directly interact with a MySQL server or will you be writing a script/program on your own? If you are scripting/programming, what language will you use and which connection libraries will you consider? Sorry to ask so many questions but your question was so vague that it is unanswerable.
