Yannick, MySQL is very picky in how it handles security, or at least different. It has an extra layer of complexity, compared to say, the Informix RDBMS, which uses the OS user/password and grant statements. With that being said, have you run the post-install steps to add users to the mysql database grant tables user & db? Refer to section 2.9 of the MySQL Reference Manual, especially section 2.9.3.
