It may be that nobody responded because we haven't done our own 
benchmarking. Not everyone is up to 5.x yet and those that are, whatever 
their new performance is, they must not have noticed as big a difference 
as you did.

There is no "guilt" or "confessing" to go on because the effect seems to 
be fairly isolated to your configuration. I am sure that by now there 
would have been many howls of pain on the list if everyone was getting 
such radically different performance after their upgrades. I agree with 
you that MySQL is an excellent product. Please do not assume that a 
non-answer is an admission of guilt. There are probably several reasons 
why nobody responded to you. Jumping to the conclusion that there is 
something to hide seems a bit overkill and unfounded to me.
