the granting is not affecting the tables:
mysql> grant all privileges on *.* to root@localhost identified by 'pwd';
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)
mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)
...
and if I try the granting in 127.0.0.1 :
mysql> grant all privileges to *.* 'root'@'127.0.0.1' identified by
kernel26;
ERROR 1064 (42000): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual
that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use
near 'to *.* 'root'@'127.0.0.1' identified by kernel26' at line 1

in eclipse using jconnector ... I get the same error :
