If you run a serious business on MySQL, our support contract is a very
worthwhile investment. Just condsider this situation, for example:
* you purchase login support for $2000 a year.
* your own staff work costs you $100 an hour
If we can save your staff 20 hours of work, you have covered your investment.
And there are many high skilled professionals working with MySQL that can
easily lose 20 hours on some relatively simple issue that one of us can
resolve in 5 minutes. Our users with support contracts reading this will
testify that this is the case.
Additionally, by investing $2000 into a support contract, you can often save
the same $2000 or more by not having to purchase expensive hardware - we can
often help you optimize your system so that it gives more than adequate
performance on commodity hardware.
When you have a support contract and send a support request to us, it will
usually be answered by the person who wrote the code that you are having
problems with. If your support level is high enough, he will log in to your
system, look around, and usually very quickly discover what is wrong and how
to make it better. If you run into some limitation of MySQL, we are often
able to come up with a viable workaround that solves your problem, either by
suggesting a reasonable change in your code, or by adding a small feature to
ours.
Our attitude towards our customers is to be honest and fair, and provide
quality support. If the problem is a user error, we tell you how to fix it.
If it is our bug, we admit it without trying to put on an appearance, and fix
it as soon as possible. If your site is bogged down, we work with you until
you are happy with your system performance. We do not want anyone, especially
our customers, to have any reason to complain that MySQL is slow. When we log
in to your system, we do not like to log out without having a solution that
will work for you. We do not just let things slide.
In short, if you do not yet have a support contract, talk to your boss today,
and explain to him that it is really worth it - this is not just charity
money to keep us alive, but an investment with high returns.
