I understand that mysqld will normally look in /etc for the my.cnf file when it starts. I would like to change this behavior so that it will look in /usr/local/etc. I know that I can do this with a command line option, but I want this to be the default behavior. I thought the the configure option "--sysconfdir" would do this. It did not. Does anyone know how to do this? Also, I know how to compile mysqld with extra character sets, is there anyway to limit the character sets that are built? I don't want support for all of the character sets, just a few.
