I am sorry but there isn't any file mysql.sock in the folder /var/lib/mysql. 
In this folder there are:

linux-bin.001  linux-bin.index  linux.err  mysql/  test/

where 'mysqld' and 'test' are two folders too.

I know mysqld has to run as user "mysql", but I don't understand if to run 
the daemon I have to log in as 'root' or 'mysql'. For the moment I tried to 
run "mysqld" from my personal account by 'su' command. Have I do a mistake?

I used the rpm inside the SuSE's distribution.
