If you need to, use the "kill -9 <pid> -9 is a definite kill and it will work

S 0:00 /usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/ --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --user=mysql --pid-file=/var/lib/mysql/mysqld.pid - I'm not sure if all of these are processes that are actively running, but killing them apparently does nothing because I am unable to load mysqld again so that I can restart it using the --skip-grant-tables option. Can someone help me understand which of the pid's is the actual one, and how I can kill it?
