Having looked, I have no /usr/local/mysql/var. The installation instructions (from Marc Liyanage's excellent website) were as follows (in part): "sudo chown -R mysql /usr/local/mysql/*" followed by: "sudo ./bin/safe_mysqld --user=mysql &" Also, how do I check the user/host table?
