No1. Sounds like a permission problem. Make sure that you have that domain in the list of computer allowed to connect to MySQL. Refer to MySQL manual to get more information about this.
No2. PC based application won't run on Linux unless you run them under an PC-emulator which I don't even know if there is for Linux. Solution: Program in Java if you want cross-platform applications.
