The DATETIME column type isn't the problem, it's the fact that using
this date format will allow you to use functions like FROM_DAYS(),
WEEKDAY(), PERIOD_ADD(), etc, which are MySQL-specific.  This is
documented at http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Extensions_to_ANSI.html .

All it comes down to is that you can do whatever you want, as long as
you know what you're doing.
